Christmas Camping Trip

The day after Christmas we planned a camping trip to Myakka River State Park...the participants included...myself, Jon Mike, Rea, brother Jonathon, Terri, brother Matt, Tara, Anna, Aleah, Adriene, and Addie. Brother Jon got some camping essentials for Christmas, so we needed to try them out.

This was our (Jon and I) first camping trip to a state park...normally we go out to some property in the middle of nowhere. It was kinda nice to have a bathroom so close by and it was clean...promise! However, we did pick probably the busiest time of the year, so it was packed. Including a very sad family right next to our site....a Caucasian couple and three children...a little boy mixed (approx. 5 yrs.), a very outgoing, expressive little black girl, and a black baby boy (maybe 9 months...old enough to crawl around in and eat the dirt). They were really cute kids...obviously adopted. LONG STORY SHORT...the parenting skills were rough around the edges and I desperately wanted to take all three of them home. We all felt horrible and it put a little damper on the trip for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed the company we were with and will definitely do it again. We even spent the next day "hiking" around the park a little. The park has a canopy walkway that we took advantage of. (Hey Andrew, this is where we saw several gators in the WILD!)
Rea was resting up on the way there to get ready for the camping adventure.

Jon Mike and Jonathon ready to go!
What an outdoorsy family!
On the way home...too much camping!
