Proud

Rea Girl…

Today YOU quoted scripture to me when you were facing the choice to obey or not. We’ve been working on first time obedience.  One time this afternoon, you started to complain and then caught yourself midsentence and corrected your response. Then a short bit after that, you actually said to me “Do all things without complaining or disputing” (Philippians 2:14) when you wanted to complain. This makes me so proud. Hide His words deep in your heart, so you can apply them when you are faced with decisions.

You also read your first decodable mini book. I am so surprised and proud. You are really building your site word  collection. Your confidence and interest has really increased over the past few weeks. You are soaking in every knew bit of information you are presented…at school and at home.

What a great start to two lifelong skills!

Love you!

Evil

I described something as evil to Rea for the first time today. It was oddly sobering.

The JoyFM was replaying a 9-11-01 timeline complete with 911 calls, news reports, airline communication, etc.  She asked what they were talking about.

I hesitated. It was a surreal moment. 11 years later, this is where I am…this is my life.

My impressionable, vulnerable, innocent little one was asking me about a horrific incident filled with evil.

I considered giving her a simple, soft answer and address it another time. “There were some mean people who tried to hurt others”. In that moment, it didn’t seem like complete truth.

I took a deep breath and I told her what happen that horrific day. I told her about the evil that day. I was flooded with emotions when I thought about my sweet, sweet little ladies and the evil they will deal with in their lifetimes.

I pray that the evil that is in me and around me, like that on 9-11-01, will remind me that THIS IS NOT MY HOME. I pray that my heart will crave, desire, yearn for the greater things above and not set my eyes on things of this world.

After I finished speaking, I quickly prayed for wisdom to answer her questions. I paused. She said nothing. Then she asked me a completely unrelated question. In love

Lord, hold on to their hearts and please never let go. Give them hearts that yearn for you. Make them restless and thirsty…  completely satisfied by you. ~Humbled mama

No Japanese for 6 months

Mimi and Papa invited the girls and I to dinner at the Japanese steakhouse while daddy was out of town. It had been awhile since we had been there, so I thought I’d give it a shot. Let’s just say, Fuzz isn’t quite ready for it.

Rea was shielding herself with a book…

then she got interested…

The book went down…..

then Fuzz started getting concerned with the fire….

I stopped taking pictures because she got quite loud.

We’ll try again in a few months.

Littles Becoming Bigs

We had 4 year old/preschool and 12 or 15 month check-ups this past month. Mmmm, yea, it was really a great time! (NOT!!!)

Fuzz stats: 22 lbs. – 31” – slightly below 50th percentile in all areas. Dr. Ben ordered a hearing test because she doesn’t have 7-10 words. He wonders if the several weeks to months (around June-ish) that she had fluid in her ears has impacted her speech development. I’m not having it done yet, I’m waiting. 4 shots and it was really sad, but was fine quickly.

Rea stats: 30 lbs. – 40” – slightly below the 25th percentile. 6 shots and a finger prick! Oh holy horribleness. She is my child…she was super concerned and sad because of the unknown. She kept saying “ow. ow. ow.” when the shots were happening. She was also fine quickly because she knew our next stop was CFA for a milkshake. She was good for a while when we got home, then about 5:00, things went down hill….achy, low-grade fever, yucky, and miserable. Sad girl for the night. Daddy was gone for the night, so that added to the sadness. She was good by the next morning, except she was limping. I think it was a combination of the band-aids annoying her and her thighs being sore. photo 2

We’re all good!

Often when the blog is quiet, it means that we are B*U*S*Y and I feel like we are doggy paddling to stay afloat. We are still B*U*S*Y, but its filled with a lot of REALLY good stuff….being together, being home, and filling love tanks (at least I feel that way).

Daddy has changed his work schedule slightly, so we have had him for 3 Saturdays…. ALL day….ALL to ourselves! We also loved having Labor Day with him. He’s been working extra hard on little household things with us too. More on this at another time…

Some of us have been ironing a lot, but it definitely has NOT been me which is unfortunate.Thinking smile We visited a fun splash pad/pool with friends.

When bread goes stale, we’ve been “sword” fighting!

We had a lovely day off from school while we waited on the horrible  weather from Tropical Storm “Isaac”…ended up being hardly anything. We used the day for some late-summer cleaning and box coloring.

We’ve been eating our shoes, a little crazy, but A LOT of cuteness!
